World Chain, the layer-2 supporting World Network and its 35M+ users, has adopted Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to enable cross-chain transfers of WLD, its native operative and governance token, using the Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard. Users can now seamlessly and securely transfer WLD between World Chain and Ethereum.
World Chain has also adopted Chainlink Data Streams to unlock advanced cross-chain DeFi applications that accelerate the network’s global adoption.
Founded as a biometrics-driven “proof-of-humanity” project by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in 2023, World launched World Chain last year to over 15 million users who anonymously verified their identities with World ID. Built to scale as part of Optimism’s Superchain, World Chain is designed to be a globally inclusive financial network that prioritizes humans over bots and AI.
In January, World Chain integrated CCIP to unlock novel cross-chain applications. CCIP leverages Chainlink’s industry-leading decentralized oracle network, which has enabled over $25 trillion in transaction value across 60+ blockchains, to achieve the highest level of cross-chain security backed by a separate Risk Management Network.
The CCT standard allows developers on supported networks to turn any ERC-20-compatible token, such as WLD, into a CCT with additional security and reliability benefits including configurable rate limits, self-serve deployments, and zero-slippage transfers.
“It’s exciting to see World Chain has adopted Chainlink CCIP and the Cross-Chain Token standard for WLD, enabling secure transfers across chains,” said Thodoris Karakostas, Director, Blockchain and Product Partnerships at Chainlink Labs.
“Combined with bringing high-quality market prices to World Chain through Chainlink Data Streams, the mainstream adoption of secure WLD markets and cross-chain apps on World is set to accelerate.”
Data Streams is a pull-based oracle solution that allows protocols to consume data more cost-effectively and at lower latencies while reducing the possibility of frontrunning and MEV. Leveraging Chainlink’s time-tested oracle infrastructure, Data Streams expand DeFi’s reach and unlock advanced products like perpetual futures contracts that require lower gas fees and faster price updates.
“World is using Chainlink Data Streams to support secure markets around WLD and enhance its liquidity,” said Steven Smith, VP of Engineering, Protocol and Applied Research at Tools for Humanity, a contributor to World.
“Ultimately, by leveraging Chainlink’s interoperability and data standards, we can unlock secure cross-chain development and rapidly expand our network across the globe.”
