In early 2022, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin described soulbound tokens (SBTs) as indelible NFTs that are intrinsically attached to web3 users. Unlike NFTs that represent unique onchain assets, SBTs cannot be bought, sold, or traded. They serve instead to build and verify users’ social, professional, and academic identities based on reputation, credentials, contributions, and accomplishments.
EtherScore is a decentralized onchain reputation system aimed at accelerating web3’s adoption of SBTs. The EtherScore Badge Factory allows developers to create customizable SBTs or badges that identify a dApp’s users through their onchain actions and reward them for their achievements. Today, EtherScore announced it is joining Chainlink BUILD in order to amplify its reach.
The Chainlink BUILD program is designed to strengthen the Chainlink Network by fostering promising early-stage startups in Chainlink’s ecosystem. Participants receive benefits such as priority access to technical support and new services from Chainlink in exchange for paying fees that incentivize Chainlink service providers and boost the network’s cryptoeconomic security.
Participating in BUILD will allow EtherScore to deepen its integration of Chainlink’s essential web3 infrastructure such as Chainlink Functions, which will allow developers to utilize data from any web2 API in a broad spectrum of badges and SBTs. EtherScore will also gain access to dApps in Chainlink’s ecosystem that need user reputation systems to unlock a new tier of curated services such as social networks, fair airdrops, and loyalty programs.
In an official blog post, EtherScore CEO Sami Barbara underscored Chainlink’s critical role in elevating web3’s user experience.
“We are excited to join Chainlink BUILD to help us build a decentralized and reliable solution to the problem of user curation in Web3,” he said. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration to build a fair Web3, and we welcome the passionate Chainlink community to the EtherScore ecosystem.”
