This week, Base – a fast, scalable layer-2 incubated by Coinbase and secured by Ethereum – announced its integration of Data Streams and VRF (Verifiable Random Function). With these latest integrations, the entire suite of Chainlink’s industry-standard oracle services is now live on Base.
Soon after launching last year, Base joined Chainlink Scale to accelerate the growth of its ecosystem by giving developers low-cost access to Chainlink’s oracle infrastructure, beginning with Price Feeds to enable externally connected DeFi applications and Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to unlock secure cross-chain digital asset and data transfer.
Earlier this year, Base integrated Functions – a serverless, self-serve web3 development platform that seamlessly delivers web2 data onchain – and Automation, which empowers developers to build smart contract applications with verifiable, decentralized, gas-efficient automation capabilities.
Data Streams is a pull-based oracle solution that allows protocols to consume data more cost-effectively and at lower latencies, reducing the risk of frontrunning and MEV while unlocking user-friendly decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and advanced DeFi products that require lower gas fees and faster price updates.
VRF is the blockchain industry standard for tamper-proof, publicly auditable onchain randomness. As web3’s most widely adopted random number generator (RNG), VRF has fulfilled over 21 million request transactions for thousands of smart contracts across multiple blockchains.
Conceived as the onchain home for Coinbase products, users, and assets, Base launched with the goal of onboarding a billion new web3 users by giving developers simple, cost-effective tools to build secure dApps with real-world utility. As the industry-standard decentralized computing platform, Chainlink has enabled over $14 trillion in transaction value through a variety of decentralized oracle services, all now available on Base.
“We’re excited to see all of Chainlink’s infrastructure solutions are now on Base for developers to build next-gen onchain apps,” said Tom Vieira, Head of Product at Base, in an official announcement.
“Base’s builder-friendly environment is a natural fit for Chainlink products, and we’re excited to see all of the Chainlink platform now available on Base,” said Thodoris Karakostas, Head of Blockchain Partnerships at Chainlink Labs. “Chainlink Data Streams low-latency market data will enable developers to build the next generation of DeFi products, while VRF will now enable smart contracts on Base to access random number generation securely.”
