Today marks the two-year anniversary of Chainlink on mainnet. Co-Founder Sergey Nazarov sat down to express his gratitude to the supportive, enthusiastic Chainlink community and celebrate the past year’s 360 integrations as well as the constant expansion of Chainlink Data Feeds, new node operators and new datasets on-chain.
“I am, of course, uniquely grateful to the amazing community that we have and their consistent and ongoing support of this change in the world that I believe in, that I know they believe in, and that a lot of people in our industry have historically wanted to see happen and that I think the larger world is slowly waking up to.”
The past year also saw the release of essential Chainlink decentralized services such as Chainlink VRF (Verifiable Random Function), which is powering prominent dynamic NFT projects like Ether Cards, and Off-Chain Reporting (OCR), which is accelerating the development of new hybrid smart contracts by dramatically reducing operating costs.
As DeFi’s TVL grew from $1 billion to over $50 billion during the past year, Chainlink proved its resiliency to unexpected gas fees and flash loans attacks. Protocols that suffered flash loan attacks in the past, such as Warp Finance, integrated with Chainlink to prevent future flash loan attacks.
The Chainlink 2.0 whitepaper, published last month, architects the future of hybrid smart contracts, the role of hybrid smart contracts in building Web 3.0 and the exponential growth of decentralized oracle networks (DONs).
The virtual Spring 2021 Chainlink Hackathon attracted a new tier of talented teams building projects like dynamic NFT game CryptOrchids, synthetic index token-minting platform Catalyst and weather derivatives marketplace Vulcan, which recently brought on Mark Cuban as a strategic advisor.
The Chainlink Community Grant Program is thriving. In addition to launching Chainlink Today in March, the program awarded a grant to UNICEF’s Innovation Fund and CryptoFund, which support startups accelerating blockchain as a force for good, and a grant to Green World Campaign (GWC), whose hybrid smart contract application, AIRS, uses satellite data to incentivize regenerative agriculture.
August’s Smart Contract Summit will be an invaluable opportunity for the community to take stock of how far Chainlink has come and look forward to how much farther it can go.
“Thank you very much to everybody who’s enabled this new vision of the world over the last few years,” Nazarov said. “I’m unbelievably excited about what will happen in the next few years.”
