DeFi’s largest lending protocol, Aave, has expanded its use of Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to the Aave App, a consumer-facing mobile savings application that allows users to earn high-yield returns.
The news follows an updated Aave Risk Framework published by independent risk management and research firm LlamaRisk, which scored CCIP as the most secure cross-chain infrastructure for governing all assets across Aave V3, V4, and institutional lending platform, Aave Horizon.
CCIP leverages Chainlink’s industry-standard oracle network, which has enabled over $32 trillion in transaction value, to transfer tokenized real-world assets and stablecoins with the highest level of cross-chain security backed by a separate Risk Management Network. Compared to bridge solutions with only one or two centrally controlled nodes, each CCIP bridge lane is secured by 16 independent, security-reviewed node operators.
CCIP already underpins key components of Aave, including governance and its native stablecoin, GHO, alongside Savings GHO (sGHO). Both GHO and sGHO leverage the Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard to move between blockchain networks.
CCIP exceeds the high security standards formalized in LlamaRisk’s Aave Risk Framework and Aave Labs’ Technical Asset Listing Framework. Establishing CCIP as Aave’s default cross-chain standard expands the protocol’s existing Chainlink integration, which dates back to 2020, without introducing additional trust assumptions.
The Aave App is designed to bring the experience of a modern fintech application to DeFi. Users can earn Aave-powered yield across multiple chains without any technical knowledge or expertise. Instead of manual bridge and deposit actions, CCIP powers cross-chain vault rebalancing, deposits, and transfers in the background using a single interface.
