Virtuals Protocol Joins $4.8 Billion Migration To Chainlink CCIP

Virtuals Protocol, an economic operating layer for autonomous AI agents, is migrating its $700M+ native utility and base currency token, VIRTUAL, from its legacy bridging solution to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP).

Virtuals Protocol is building the foundation for AI agents to be created, tokenized, co-owned, funded, and monetized in the emerging agentic economy. The protocol provides critical infrastructure for autonomous AI agents to launch, coordinate, transact, and create value onchain. This AI-driven ecosystem requires highly secure cross-chain architecture to protect user trust and capital.

After a LayerZero exploit that resulted in nearly $300 million in losses across DeFi, numerous top protocols with a combined TVL of more than $4.8 billion have upgraded to Chainlink’s secure-by-default oracle infrastructure, which powers 70% of global DeFi markets across 80+ networks and has enabled over $30 trillion in onchain transaction value.

As the only oracle platform to achieve ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 attestation, Chainlink is also being adopted by the world’s largest financial institutions, including Swift, Euroclear, UBS, Wellington Management, ANZ, and Fidelity International, to bring capital markets onchain.

CCIP maintains the industry’s highest level of cross-chain security, backed by a separate Risk Management Network. Compared to bridge solutions with only one or two centrally controlled nodes, each CCIP bridge lane is secured by 16 independent, security-reviewed node operators, ensuring every cross-chain transaction is redundantly validated. Additional built-in security features include native rate limits that act as circuit breakers limiting the impact of anomalies or extreme volatility.

CCIP provides Virtuals Protocol users with standardized security for all cross-chain operations within the Virtuals ecosystem and allows VIRTUAL to scale throughout the onchain economy.

“We believe Chainlink CCIP provides one of the highest levels of cross-chain security, which is critical as Virtuals Protocol continues expanding the infrastructure for the agentic economy,” said Virtuals Protocol COO, Khoon Kheng, in an official announcement.

“By adopting Chainlink CCIP, we deliver agents the definitive solution for reliable, cross-chain capital movement while aligning our protocol with the highest institutional security standards.”
