Venus Brings XAUm, Secured By Chainlink SmartData, To BNB Chain

Today, Venus Protocol, a leading DeFi lending and borrowing platform on BNB Chain, listed its first collateral asset, XAUm, in partnership with Matrixdock and Chainlink.

XAUm is Asia’s leading tokenized gold product issued by Matrixdock, the premier tokenized real-world asset (RWA) platform of crypto financial services provider, Matrixport Group. Launched in 2024, XAUm is an ERC-20 token with a $63M market cap that is fully backed by physical gold accredited by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and stored in high-security Malca-Amit and Brink’s vaults in Singapore and Hong Kong.

In 2025, Matrixdock expanded its use of Chainlink’s key tokenization infrastructure, which also powers Asia’s first tokenized short-term treasury bill product (STBT), to enhance XAUm with verifiable price data and secure interoperability via Chainlink Price Feeds and Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP).

Venus integrated Chainlink’s SmartData Feeds as the oracle infrastructure for XAUm, which brings institutional-grade gold exposure directly into Venus’ lending markets. As the industry-standard decentralized oracle network, Chainlink secures hundreds of billions of dollars in global DeFi value and provides vital price data and reserve verification for RWAs like XAUm.

When XAUm is supplied to Venus as collateral, users can borrow against their gold-backed position without selling the underlying asset. This unlocks a set of DeFi use cases for the most universally understood asset class onchain. XAUm’s presence as collateral on Venus makes the protocol attractive to a broader user base including institutional investors that hold gold.

XAUm was selected to set the standard for subsequent RWA listings supported by Chainlink’s shared, audited, battle-tested infrastructure standard on Venus. In the future, Venus plans to introduce tokenized treasuries, private credit, and other real-world instruments on BNB Chain.
