October 2022 Recap: Chainlink Fall 2022 Hackathon Participants Compete For $300K In Prizes, Community Prepares For Staking V0.1

On the heels of a successful SmartCon 2022, including the first-ever Chainlink Hacker House technical workshop, the Chainlink Fall 2022 Hackathon began October 14 and runs through November 18, 2022. There’s still time to register for the free virtual event, open to both new and experienced developers. Those who submit projects built during the hackathon will be eligible to win over $300k in prizes. Winners will be announced December 2 during the closing ceremony.

During his sweeping SmartCon keynote, Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov marked the launch of Chainlink Economics 2.0 and announced that Chainlink Staking v0.1 is on track to launch this December. Today, Chainlink announced its new time-limited crowdsourced audit program of v0.1 on the Code4rena platform used by numerous top web3 projects to successfully review their codebase.

Yesterday, Nazarov joined Real Vision host Ash Bennington live to expound on the significance of another forthcoming release, Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), poised to accelerate the evolution of web3 by facilitating hyperconnected smart contract applications.

Nazarov siad CCIP will allow web3 applications to optimize multiple different blockchains, similar to the way popular web2 applications like Uber and Netflix utilize different cloud services.

He illustrated CCIP’s significance by highlighting his SmartCon fireside chat with Chainlink advisor and former Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, who developed essential web2 products like Gmail, Google Maps, and Chrome.

Schmidt echoed Nazarov’s view of CCIP as essential web3 infrastructure when he told his SmartCon audience, “We want everyone here to have a piece of Chainlink in everything that you do.”

“I think what Eric and others see is that a reliable world backed by web3 guarantees is actually where we all would like to end up,” Nazarov told Bennington.

In October, the Chainlink ecosystem grew by 65 new product integrations and the Chainlink Network added a new data provider, Two Sigma Securities, which will contribute its high-quality proprietary data to support an expanding array of smart contract use cases that rely on accurate, up-to-date financial market data.

Throughout November, Chainlink Today will continue to highlight the most educational and inspirational moments from SmartCon 2022, along with the latest integrations in the Chainlink ecosystem.
