Many popular NFT projects focus on building community around digital art that extends exclusive real-life experiences and opportunities. Art and collectibles alone, however, aren’t enough to build the hyper-immersive, ultra-realistic digital realm most people think of when they picture the metaverse. Megaverse is a metaverse project combining NFTs, digital land ownership, play-to-earn (P2E) and virtual reality (VR) gaming in a “heightened, futuristic experience that pushes the boundaries of what is possible.”
Megaverse “opens the door to metaverse 2.0,” its development team believes, because it’s built using Unreal Engine 5, a suite of real-time 3D tools for rendering high-fidelity virtual worlds.
“Low-poly, cartoon-style environments are cool, but when the possibilities inherent in the metaverse are so vast, the environment should reflect that better,” Megaverse’s Chief Business Development Officer, Simon Fletcher, told Chainlink Today. “By building on Unreal Engine 5, we’re creating a metaverse that pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved and what should be expected.”
The project aims to pair acute realism with maximum transparency when it comes to minting digital assets in its ecosystem blending DeFi, NFTs, DAO governance, and application development. To that end, Megaverse recently integrated Chainlink VRF (Verifiable Random Function) – the industry standard for secure on-chain random number generation (RNG) – to mint its Mega Hero NFTs.
“With Chainlink VRF, the random number generation is entirely on-chain and decentralized against the common use of block hash and block time, which are not entirely random,” Fletcher said. “Our users now have higher assurances of the NFT mint’s integrity and VRF helps ensure that every user has an equal chance of receiving one of the many different possible classes and variations of our current Mega Heroes collection.”
Fletcher explained that while Mega Hero NFTs embody just one of many facets constituting the Megaverse and wider Mega DAO ecosystem, Mega Heroes impart a host of benefits including early bird access to future Megaverse land sales, limited edition NFTs, and new games. VRF is essential to maintaining the veracity of this ecosystem by ensuring all users have a fair shot at minting rare NFTs with in-demand utilities.
In addition to establishing a consulting and education arm for onboarding users to web3’s new frontier, as well as acquiring a new art design team for an upcoming Mega Mansions collection, Fletcher said future Chainlink integrations are fundamental to Megaverse’s expansion.
“We have been in discussions with the Chainlink team for a long time now and it’s great to finally be working together. I think the feeling is mutual and we’re really looking forward to working on a number of integrations across all of Mega DAO in the future.”
