Today Coinbase, the largest publicly traded digital asset exchange in the United States, officially launched its tokenized stocks powered by Chainlink across the Base DeFi ecosystem. Chainlink Data Feeds will deliver continuous pricing data for tokenized stocks, including NVDAc, METAc, AAPLc, GOOGLc, with more stocks on the horizon.
As the industry-leading decentralized oracle platform, Chainlink has enabled over $33 trillion in transaction value, secures the vast majority of DeFi, and is the leading infrastructure provider connecting global financial institutions such as Swift and UBS to the blockchain economy. Chainlink’s data standard is foundational to tokenized securities, one of the fastest-growing categories of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), which could exceed $5.5 trillion by 2030.
Coinbase Tokenized Stocks are real equity securities issued as standard B20 tokens on Base. Each token is backed 1:1 by an underlying share held in regulated custody with Alpaca, in a bankruptcy-remote structure supervised by Abu Dhabi Global Market’s (ADGM) regulatory authority.
Compared to traditional stocks, Coinbase’s tokenized stocks are globally accessible, available 24/7, and can be used as collateral throughout DeFi, allowing millions of users on Base to earn yield and borrow against U.S. stocks. The tokens also reflect dividends and stock splits. Once minted, they can move between wallets without a whitelist.
In an official announcement, Antonio Garcia-Martinez, Head of Growth at Base, said the launch of Chainlink-powered tokenized stocks positions Base as “the go-to chain” for RWAs.
“Base has built one of the most vibrant DeFi ecosystems out there, and Chainlink’s oracle infra unlocks new utility for tokenized assets. With institutional-grade market data now live onchain, we’re giving millions of users access to financial primitives that, until now, were locked behind traditional gatekeepers.”
“Tokenized assets only reach their full potential when the broader ecosystem can build with them across DeFi,” said Chainlink Labs’ Chief Business Officer, Johann Eid.
“With Chainlink, Coinbase leverages the secure, reliable pricing data required to unlock the utility and distribution of tokenized stocks across DeFi, while accelerating the convergence of TradFi and DeFi.”
The announcement expands Coinbase’s ongoing work with Chainlink.
Earlier this year, Coinbase announced it will bring its premium exchange data underpinning billions in trading activity onchain via Chainlink’s institutional-grade data publishing service, DataLink.
In 2025, Coinbase integrated Proof of Reserve to increase the transparency of over $4.6 billion worth of BTC reserves backing its wrapped BTC, cbBTC. Coinbase also selected Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as the exclusive secure bridging solution for all Coinbase wrapped assets, which have an aggregate market cap of approximately $7 billion.
