This week, Canton, the public blockchain built for institutional finance, deployed Chainlink’s data standard via Data Streams, SmartData, and Proof of Reserve to provide institutions with the real-time pricing, valuation, and collateral verification required to support lending, margining, settlement, and risk management across regulated markets.
Today, BitSafe, a platform for institutional investors to generate Bitcoin (BTC) yield on Canton, announced that CBTC, the first and only wrapped BTC asset on Canton, is now powered by Proof of Reserve and Data Streams to enable use cases such as lending, borrowing, swaps, and other onchain applications across Canton.
CBTC is designed to support regulated financial activity with privacy and control for institutional participants. Proof of Reserve is essential infrastructure for assets like CBTC, backed 1:1 by reserve BTC, because it allows counterparties to continuously verify in real time that onchain assets are fully collateralized. This unlocks critical financial use cases such as collateralized lending, margining, and structured products.
Data Streams is a pull-based oracle solution that allows protocols to consume data more cost-effectively and at lower latencies while reducing the possibility of frontrunning and MEV. Data Streams provide the low-latency BTC pricing developers need to build advanced CBTC-based applications on Canton.
Proof of Reserve and Data Streams leverage Chainlink’s industry-leading oracle infrastructure, which has enabled over $28 trillion in transaction value and supports a spectrum of tokenized real-world assets and stablecoins issued by leading DeFi protocols and top financial institutions such as ANZ and Fidelity International.
DeFi applications such as Thetanuts Finance, an onchain options protocol, and Kairo, a decentralized exchange, can now integrate CBTC into a range of Canton-native applications without custom oracle implementations. Adopting Chainlink’s data standard reduces integration complexity while improving transparency and risk management across the Canton ecosystem.
