Real estate is less accessible to many investors because of its illiquidity and high capital requirements. LaProp is a new kind of real estate platform engineered to democratize real estate investments by fractionalizing and tokenizing property ownership on the blockchain. With fractionalized ownership, LaProp users can invest in the platform’s hand-selected, owned, and managed properties for as little as $50.
LaProp runs on BNB Chain and was designed for real estate investments in Latin America, with plans to scale to additional blockchains and global real estate markets in the future. Each of the platform’s listings includes the property’s address, pictures, and financial documentation. Users can invest in a property by purchasing ERC-20 tokens that guarantee a percentage of that property’s revenue streams, including rent and its eventual sale.
This week, LaProp announced it is integrating Chainlink Keepers to automatically distribute rent revenue to LaProp token holders in regular weekly to monthly intervals. Chainlink Keepers is a decentralized smart contract automation service maintained by the same network of node operators currently securing tens of billions in decentralized finance (DeFi), even during times of extreme network congestion and volatility.
LaProp CEO and cofounder, Alejandro Jaramillo, told Chainlink Today that Chainlink Keepers will enhance LaProp’s user experience through increased transparency and decentralization. “Our users can now see the rent distribution smart contract, making the process fully automated, transparent and decentralized,” he said. “They no longer need to trust in a central entity.”
In addition to expanding to new real estate markets and increasing the number of listings on its platform, Jaramillo said LaProp is planning to launch a multi-chain real estate data service that integrates Chainlink Price Feeds in the near future.
Ultimately, he sees blockchain technology and decentralized infrastructure like Chainlink Keepers as a means to help as many people as possible diversify their investment portfolios. “Real estate is a very popular investment category. We think that there is a large group of risk-averse real estate investors that will use the blockchain to be able to start investing with smaller sums.”
