The 100+ expert speakers at this year’s SmartCon included founders of influential protocols in the Chainlink ecosystem. To showcase their thought leadership during SmartCon’s 2022 event, September 28-29 in New York City, Nasdaq TradeTalks host Jill Malandrino filmed a two-day interview lineup with featured presenters.
After speaking with Krypton CEO Michael Nowotny, Malandrino sat down for an interview with Tobias Jung, Product Owner at T-Systems, an international service provider for information technologies and digital transformation that became a Chainlink node operator in 2020.
T-Systems’ parent company, Deutsche Telekom AG, is the world’s second largest telco, the majority shareholder of T-Mobile US, and a major data provider on the Chainlink Network.
Jung elaborated on T-Systems’ role within the Chainlink Network and explained why Chainlink oracles are essential web3 infrastructure.
“We run Chainlink nodes and provide real-life data to the Ethereum blockchain,” he said. “You have a lot of data on the blockchain, but you also have data in real life which somehow needs to get transported onto the blockchain, and this is what we do through our oracle services.”
Jung also traced back Deutsche Telekom’s early interest in web3, as a mobile and internet infrastructure provider. “At some point, you need to think about what is the next infrastructure play. And what is the next iteration of the internet? It’s web3. Web3 utilizes blockchain technology, and this is what we try to support from the infrastructure side now at T-Systems.”
Among the many opportunities T-Systems sees in web3 is the idea of giving ownership back to individual users in areas such as social media and banking.
When asked what’s next for T-Systems, Jung described the company’s aim to become an educational resource for other organizations transitioning to web3, while expanding its own infrastructure across different blockchain networks. “Things like this are very interesting and we can’t wait to further support,” he said.
