As web3’s leading decentralized oracle service, Chainlink has enabled over $7 trillion in transaction value while its ecosystem has expanded beyond 1,600 projects. In 2022, Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov announced the launch of Chainlink Economics 2.0 – a framework of initiatives for continuing to scale Chainlink’s cross-chain expansion through sustainable growth, cryptoeconomic security, and revenue capture.
Key components of Economics 2.0 include Chainlink BUILD, which fosters the success of promising early-stage startups in the Chainlink ecosystem, and Chainlink SCALE (Sustainable Chainlink Access for Layer 1 and 2 Enablement), a program aimed at accelerating the growth of blockchain and layer-2 ecosystems through Chainlink’s oracle services.
Today, StarkWare announced plans to accelerate the adoption of its validity-based layer-2 solution, StarkNet, through an upcoming partnership with Chainlink Labs, which will include officially joining Chainlink SCALE and making Chainlink Price Feeds available on StarkNet mainnet in the near future. Chainlink Price Feeds are currently live on StarkNet testnet.
In order for blockchain ecosystems to expand, developers need low-cost oracle services to build increasingly advanced use cases for hybrid smart contracts. Networks participating in SCALE cover the operating costs of certain Chainlink oracle networks for a period of time so that developers can access essential oracle services including high-speed configurations for their specific network.
“We’re excited to be joining the Chainlink SCALE program to provide our ecosystem of developers with access to the industry standard for oracle services, enabling a next-generation of globally scalable Web3 applications to be built on Starknet,” said StarkWare’s co-founder and President, Eli Ben-Sasson, in an official announcement.
The ultimate goal of SCALE is to facilitate a sustainable economic model in which a network’s decentralized applications (dApps) generate sufficient revenue from user fees to fully cover the backend costs of oracle services. As more blockchain networks securely scale through Chainlink’s oracles, the cryptoeconomic security of the Chainlink Network and the entire web3 ecosystem follows suit.
“We’re thrilled to have StarkNet joining the Chainlink SCALE program, further supporting the upcoming deployment of Chainlink oracle services on StarkNet mainnet,” said Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov. “By reducing the operating costs of oracle nodes, StarkNet is able to accelerate its ecosystem’s growth and become a more attractive environment for building scalable dApps in the Web3 ecosystem.”
