Last month, Sony Block Solutions Labs, a joint venture between global entertainment company Sony Group Corporation and web3 innovator Startale, announced the development of Soneium, an Ethereum layer-2 designed to unlock web3’s global adoption, with the industry-standard decentralized computing platform, Chainlink, as an official launch partner.
Today, Sony Block Solutions Labs announced Soneium has joined Chainlink Scale, a program designed to accelerate the growth of blockchain and layer-2 ecosystems by giving developers enhanced access to Chainlink’s essential web3 services. As a result, Chainlink Data Feeds are now live on the Soneium Minato Testnet. Soneium will also integrate Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as its canonical cross-chain infrastructure.
Chainlink Data Feeds have reliably enabled over $15 trillion in transaction value even during volatile market conditions and adverse events such as flash loan attacks. Because CCIP achieves the highest level of cross-chain security and features a separate Risk Management Network that independently monitors for suspicious activity, it has become the standard for cross-chain digital asset and data transfer among leading DeFi protocols, decentralized exchanges, and traditional financial institutions.
Conceived as a powerful playground for web3 visionaries, Soneium will leverage Sony Group’s vast global distribution network across entertainment, finance, electronics, and gaming to bridge the gap between web3 innovation and everyday consumer applications with an accessible, scalable, user-friendly network that delivers blockchain solutions to people and industries around the world.
“We’re excited to join the Chainlink Scale Program and integrate CCIP as our canonical cross-chain infrastructure,” said Sony Block Solutions Labs Chairman Jun Watanabe in an official announcement. “Soneium is built for developers, boasting the ability to handle high traffic, support complex apps, and deliver a seamless onboarding experience. Chainlink’s industry-standard infrastructure ensures that we’re providing the best possible experience for the Soneium ecosystem.”
Chainlink Labs’ Chief Business Officer, Johann Eid, underscored the synergy Soneium creates by combining Sony’s web2 legacy with Chainlink’s web3 infrastructure to herald a new generation of innovative technology.
“Sony has long been a pioneer in Web2, and with the recent launch of Soneium has taken on a prominent role in pioneering the next iteration of Web2, the verifiable web,” he said. “We are excited to see Soneium join the Chainlink Scale Program and choose Chainlink CCIP as its canonical cross-chain infrastructure.”
