January 2025 Recap: CCIP v1.5 Launches On Mainnet, Adoption Of Chainlink Standard Accelerates

Chainlink launched its first major product upgrade of 2025 with the mainnet release of CCIP v1.5. The latest version of CCIP (Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol) gives all developers on supported blockchains access to new features including the Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard, which has already been adopted by leading protocols such as Aave’s decentralized stablecoin (GHO) and Solv Protocol’s wrapped Bitcoin (SolvBTC).

In addition to the Token Manager front-end web interface, which provides no-code guided CCT deployment and configuration tools, v1.5 significantly improves the developer experience with a new CCIP SDK built on leading web3 development framework, Wagmi, alongside upgrades to the CCIP Explorer and expanded security and privacy capabilities.

Adoption of the Chainlink Standard, which supports a spectrum of tokenized real-world asset and stablecoin issuers from top DeFi protocols to some of the world’s largest financial institutions, continued to accelerate in January.

Leading provider of digital asset infrastructure for financial services, Ripple, is now leveraging Chainlink to bring high-quality pricing data for the RLUSD stablecoin onchain. Chainlink Data Feeds, which have enabled over $19 trillion in transaction value, have also been integrated by Aptos Network, a community-driven blockchain platform with over $1B in TVL, to power cutting-edge applications.

Zero-knowledge rollup Scroll integrated pull-based oracle solution Chainlink Data Streams on mainnet. With Data Streams, developers on Scroll can create next-generation, high-throughput DeFi markets and decentralized exchanges with optimized execution speeds and a seamless user experience that rivals centralized exchanges.

Developers on the World Chain layer-2 created by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s “proof-of-humanity” project, World, can now leverage CCIP to unlock novel cross-chain applications. Bitlayer, the first Bitcoin layer-2 built on the BitVM paradigm, integrated CCIP to power secure cross-chain applications that promote DeFi on Bitcoin (BTCFi). BTCFi-focused, hybrid layer-2 BOB also integrated CCIP as the canonical cross-chain infrastructure for tokens native to the BOB network.

Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov celebrated the new year by highlighting Chainlink’s most significant achievements to date and outlining a path toward universal blockchain adoption.

In 2024, collaborations with global financial entities such as the DTCC, Fidelity International and Sygnum established Chainlink as the preferred way to deliver key NAV and reserve data for tokenized funds onchain. Chainlink also unveiled the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE), which makes it faster and easier to build decentralized applications that are compatible with existing financial systems.

On the heels of a crypto-forward inauguration and a new executive order to strengthen digital asset innovation in the U.S., Nazarov said, “2025 is the year when capital markets adoption really starts to take off, and government and central bank adoption starts to take on a new trajectory.”
